I am sure this question is brewing in a lot of minds out there, especially those "Brides to-be" who are getting married during rainy season. What happens if it rains on my wedding day? This isn't a topic that's discussed that often, but having an outdoor wedding to shoot tomorrow, I thought I would bring up the subject & discuss some options. One thing your photographer should be doing several weeks in advance is checking the weather schedule for the day of the wedding to get an idea of what the weather may do, so that the two of you can prepare for the worst. Worst case scenario, there being a high percentage of rain showing for the wedding day. If this is the case, I (as the photographer) would suggest that the Bride buy matching umbrellas for everyone included in the Bridal party (usually black and/or white are good color choices). I'd also advise the Bride to purchase rain-boots for her & her bridesmaids so it's easy to walk from point a to point b without ruining any formal shoes planned for the wedding ceremony. Rain-boots can also play a big part in stylizing a rainy-day wedding shoot, so make sure to pick fun colors & textures. Also, having a second shooter there helping the main photographer is a must. If for some reason the Bride did not have you hire out a second shooter, it's important that the photographer & Bride discuss the need to hire one immediately. Photography equipment is extremely expensive & no photographer just goes stomping around in the rain capturing shots without being covered completely & keeping their equipment dry. That's where the second photographer comes in - they are able to hold an umbrella over the photographers head while they shoot the important outdoor stuff. I know this doesn't seem like a very fun job for the second shooter, and believe me when I say I would much rather have the second shooter shooting behind me capturing different angles, but in the rare case of rain it would be imperative that the second shooter help keep the main photographer dry. Another good thing to keep in mind is contacting the entire bridal party to give them heads up. Hopefully this will avoid any confrontations the day of if everyone knows ahead of time that the weather may be an issue. I would only hope that everyone included in the bridal party would be understanding of the situation & just go with the flow, because let's face it, it's not their day and their job is to keep the Bride & Groom happy and stress-free.
I know that probably 100% of brides wish for sunny skies on their big day, and believe me, us photographers do to. But, I want to stress that weather rain or shine...the wedding still happens, so let's together make the best of it.

Non-traditional in so many ways. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I don't know, some of those pictures sort of make me wish I'd had a rainy day wedding...how fun! And what great memories those pictures would inspire! Cool post, Erin.
