Inspired By: Farmhouse Kitchens

My dream has always been to live out in the country, to buy an old white farmhouse with black shutters, refurbish it, and sit on my wrap around porch on hot summer nights while sipping cold sun ice tea while watching the kids run around chasing fire flies.  Part of me loves the idea of taking something already used and then creating something new out of it.  For some (maybe most), their dreams consist of building something from scratch and starting with a fresh canvas.  I don't know what it is about living in an old refurbished farm house...maybe the idea of the character behind it?  I guess part of me likes old mixed in with the new. I also have always loved the layout of older farm homes - bigger kitchens, bedrooms, mud rooms, ect.  Again, I guess I like the rustic feel of farmhouses and the endless possibilities when it comes to refurbishing.

I've always loved simple.  I like the idea of a pearly white kitchen, apron sinks, subway tile back-splashes, and dark mahogany wood floors.  I like rustic farmhouse meets contemporary with bright cheery colors.  I want my kitchen to be filled with bright morning light & a place that feels calm and peaceful. The kitchen is the one space that I would consider mine.  It's where I make all of my families meals & a place where I can bake with my two children.  I want it to feel inviting.  And with that, I hope to one day own a farmhouse and turn the kitchen into a work of art that looks something similar to this:

Apron sink - yes, please!  Love, love, love these sinks!  I actually also love the light baby blue cabinets in the lower right image...although, my husband would have a different opinion.

And...a farmhouse kitchen just wouldn't be complete without window seating with lots of fluffy pillows for me to sit & drink my morning coffee/tea.
